How to install pillow block bearings?

Step 1. Check the accuracy of the shaft

Before installing the bearing, please check if the dimensional tolerance of the shaft is qualified, if the shaft is bent, bruised, burred, etc., and to add some lubricating oil on the shaft. As shown below:

Step 2. Install the bearing with housings

Avoid striking the bearing with metal objects, such as hammer. Especially for the bearing with seals, when striking the bearing, it may cause the retainer ring to move inwards, contact with the inner seal ring and cause friction during operation, resulting in poor rotation of the bearing or burning of the bearing due to high temperature. When the inner hole of the bearing fits tightly with the shaft, it is recommended to use the sleeve to position and press the end face of the inner ring for installation. As shown below:

Step 3. Pre tighten the bearing housings

Excessive torque of the locking bolt may cause deformation of the bearing housing, and proper tightening torque shall be used to lock the bolt. CPK recommends that the locking bolt be used together with the gasket when installing the bearing seat, because if the bearing seat is locked with the locking bolt alone, the locking bolt may damage the bearing housings. As shown below:

Step 4. Tighten the bearing screw

The torque of locking screw shall be pre tightened according to the recommended torque. As shown below:

Step 5: Retighten the housings

Excessive torque of locking bolts may cause deformation of bearing pedestal. Therefore, appropriate pre tightening torque shall be used to lock bolts. As shown below:

After finished the installation,we should check it again:

 

1. Check whether the housing and bearing are installed correctly, and whether the bolts are tightened to ensure a firm and stable installation.

 

2. Gently rotate the bearing by hand or tool to check if it can rotate freely and if there are any abnormal conditions such as jamming or abnormal noise.

 

3. Gently shake the equipment with your hands or tools to check for loose or offset bearings.

 

4. Use hands or tools to inspect the surface of the housings and bearings for defects such as cracks and burrs.

 

The installation steps and acceptance methods of pillow block bearings are very important, only correct installation and acceptance can ensure the normal operation and service life of the equipment.
